There! No take backs now! Wouldn’t that be a gas?

Okay, okay, not like that’d happen, but it is a good gimmick segue to my puff piece on why I think Helen Mirren is 2fab.

I just found a picture of Helen Mirren I think is great. It is of her on Oscar night (the one of her big win) and she’s chowing down on an In-n-Out burger while her little gold man sits next to her and keeps her company. This to me epitomizes her greatness: glamour at the top of her game, but she never takes it too seriously.

How we lurv Helen – let us count the ways!

All hail!

- It doesn’t phase her to play an old lady, she has that assurance and self-confidence that helps propel mere loveliness into a more lasting beauty regardless of what age we are. Same thing with Meryl Streep. I’d list Charlotte Rampling as well but I find her off-putting.

-She has a jaw dropping theatrical background and stays true to her art.

- She takes amazing roles and tears them up.  Chief Inspector Jane Tennyson is so much tougher than Brenda Lee Johnson (although both are great).

-She’s the better half of a great power couple: she’s been married to Taylor Hackford for years. Before that she’d been involved with the likes of Liam Neeson and Peter o’Toole.

-She’s so kind and gracious to her fans, my mother included!

-She doesn’t give a damn about taking her kit off and has held her own in movies like the Cook the Thief His Wife and Her Lover and Calendar Girls.

-Reportedly she enjoys watching Jerry Springer.  I love it!

-I remember watching the Academy Awards when she was up for the Oscar… Steve Carrell and Will Farrell were on stage making fun of people, and they started talking about what a hot older lady Helen Mirren was  and how “they’d do her.” !!! The camera cut to Helen Mirren, and instead of hiding behind her hands or looking embarassed, she was roaring out loud laughing and slapping her knee.

Finally, she still shops at 99c stores and uses a wheelie cart! Yay!

Helen, if you ever want to go rummaging around a 99c store and you’re in Los Angeles, I am so up for it! You’re the best!

P.S.: I’m not a fervent fan, I’m just picky about the ladies I hang out with.
